Friends and family reading this website will soon be receiving a fundraising letter from me. No, it is not a political fundraiser. This cause is one that is even closer to my heart than politics. That is because the disease I’m raising funds to combat threatens the heart, health, and happiness of someone I love more than myself- Mark.
Diabetes affects more than 20 million people in the United States. Half of those affected don’t even realize they have the disease. Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are both prevalent in Mark’s family. Mark was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the spring of 1996. He has been taking insulin since the fall of that year. My family also has a genetic tendency to develop Type 2 diabetes. Both forms of diabetes are inheritable, making the boys that much more likely to develop one type or the other of this disease. Ethan already knows that his Daddy has to take shots everyday. I long for the day when watching Daddy inject himself with life-saving medicine or prick his finger to test his blood sugar is no longer something our little boys find routine.
So, you can see why this cause is important to me. Please visit the American Diabetes Association’s website to learn more about diabetes and the fight for a cure. If I didn’t mail you a fundraising envelope, or if you would just like to donate on-line and skip the mailing process, please visit: Donations and make a donation today.
Thank you, from both our hearts.
