This weekend we made our annual pilgrimage to the local pumpkin festival. Held right down the road at the Burke Garden and Nursery center, this event goes on until after Halloween. It is more kid-centric than other fall festivals we’ve attended, and thus is our favorite by far.
Ian immediately found the sand pile. Unlike his older brother, Ian loves sand, mud, and getting dirty. He had a blast. Then we climbed on top a wooden castle with a slide. It was shortly after that when Ian noticed the wooden train nearby. This train was perfectly designed for a train obsessed toddler. He was in rapture for nearly an hour climbing along all the cars and cheerily yelling “WOO WOO”! Ethan rediscovered the giant pirate ship, which he has talked about ever since we mentioned going to the festival. Apparently it made quite an impression on him last year.
There was a petting zoo, which Ethan ignored, and a giant bouncy room, which Ian refused to get in. There were giant slides that we all took turns riding, electronic kiddy-car rides, a tractor ride (thankfully for the allergy afflicted: no hay), face painting, snow cones and lots of running around.
Ethan told us his favorite part was the pirate ship. When we asked Ian what he liked, he grinned and said “CHOO CHOO!”. Mark loved watching the boys roll down the hill in tubes- together. My favorite part was the heart tearing joy of hearing Ian shout “Yay! Go fast choo choo!” when the tractor jolted us all at the beginning of the ride.
A good weekend. Bring on the Fall.
